Chronology of Lawsuits Against Grand Indonesia until they are sentenced to a fine of Rp. 1 billion

Grand Indonesia Mall was demanded to pay compensation of Rp. 1 billion for violating the copyright of using the Welcome Monument sketch as the mall logo. The heirs of Henk Ngantung, namely Sena Maya Ngantung, Geniati Heneve Ngantoeng, Kamang Solana, and Christie Pricilla Ngantung, filed a lawsuit thorough law office against copyright infringement.

 

The copyright infringement lawsuit was originally filed by Henk Nantung's heirs on June 30, 2020. The lawsuit is registered with case number 35 / Pdt.Sus-HKI / Copyright / 2020 / PN Jkt.Pst. Hendrik Hermanus Joel Ngantung or known as Henk Ngantung is an artist and Governor of DKI Jakarta for the period 1964-1965. 

 

Henk Ngantung sketched the monument of a pair of men and women waving their hands in 1962. The sketch was realized in the form of a statue at the Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout and was named the Welcome Monument. Meanwhile, the Grand Indonesia mall was just established and opened near the HI Roundabout in 2007. Grand Indonesia then used the Welcome Monument sketch as the mall's logo.
